Traditional Latinx and HIV/AIDS

Through similarities between Michael Hernandez and Fior Valdez’s edition to the AIDS quilt, Latinx culture appears to leave a large footprint in the lives of a quarter of those diagnosed with HIV/AIDS, despite only 18% of latinx belonging to the total national population. Latinx, being the unisex or gender neutral term for those of Latin descent to approach to people of all proclaimed gender.

Below are images of said persons quilt located in the names project foundation in Atlanta, Georgia. In the following pages I will begin to link traditional Latinx culture with the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Through contextual evidence and the usage of multi-modality I will make use of symbols placed on these quilts to form a much larger link between this subculture and epidemic.
